Cooling centers open as heat wave hits

With temperatures expected to be above 90 for most of this week, Allegheny County has issued a Code Red head advisory. The county is directing unhoused adults to go to the Second Avenue Commons Engagement Center at 700 Second Avenue (first floor) in downtown Pittsburgh from 7am to 7pm.

Cooling centers available in West Mifflin include:

• Homeville Volunteer Fire Company – 3900 Greensprings Ave.
• Duquesne Annex Volunteer Fire Company – 1620 Pennsylvania Ave.
• West Mifflin #3 Volunteer Fire Company – 3722 Rodeo Drive.
• Skyview Volunteer Fire Company – 660 Noble Drive.

Families experiencing housing instability should call the Allegheny Link at 866-730-2368 and older adults who need help accessing cooling centers or other support services can call the Allegheny County Senior Line at 412-350-5460.
