Rainbow Kitchen has been a strong and reliable source of assistance for people in need since 1984. Today, as the communities we serve are reeling from the effects of a 2+ year pandemic, compounded by rising inflation that is making already-tight budgets virtually impossible to stretch any further, our help is needed more than ever. Our program participants rely on Rainbow Kitchen to ensure that families have food on the table; to help meet children’s nutritional needs so they can learn, grow, and thrive; to offer support in times of crisis; and to provide guidance as they work to achieve self-sufficiency. We, in turn, rely on your support.
We are excited to have the opportunity to participate in The Pittsburgh Foundation’s upcoming #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert, which offers a $500,000 matching pool! This one-day online giving event is offered to benefit nonprofit organizations that meet basic needs and support the safety net of essential human services. All contributions made to Rainbow Kitchen through PittsburghGives.org/rainbowkitchen on August 9 will be eligible for a prorated share of the matching pool.
You can also support our efforts by holding a food (or non-food essentials) drive for Rainbow Kitchen. Our Food Pantry program has seen a significant increase in participation since the beginning of the pandemic, and we are experiencing a new surge now, as the impact of inflation strikes yet another blow to the low-income people we serve. We expect this trend of increasing need to continue for the foreseeable future. As we are faced with rising food prices and ongoing supply chain issues, your food drive items will help us to maintain the high level and quality of assistance we can provide to our pantry clients.
